Fort Plain slipped past Berne-Knox 69-62 in a contest that most fans thought would come down to the final buzzer. Levi Thomas and Robert Jordan combined to score 38 points for the Hilltoppers. They advance to the Class C final four on Tuesday March 3 vs Waterford.
Fort Plain used a fourth quarter rally getting the better of Berne-Knox 30-18 as regulation came to an end. That spurt ultimately sealed the win.
Sparked by a great team effort in the second half the Hilltoppers outscored Berne-Knox 45-33 in the final two quarters. That was different than the first half when Berne-Knox used excellent synergy to grab a 29-24 lead at the midway point.
The Bulldogs were strong out of the gate and sprinted out to a nice first quarter lead 14-8.
The outcome was still in limbo as the teams went to the first half break with Berne-Knox gaining the upper hand.
Fort Plain placed four players in double figure scoring. Levi Thomas paced the Hilltoppers with 20 points. Robert Jordan scored 18 points. Troy Butler finished with 17 points. Ethan Schoch scored 10 points.
The Hilltoppers used expert marksmanship to make 5 baskets from downtown.
