Averill Park-

When you think of good teams in Section 2 this year you think of Shenendehowa, Bethlehem, Albany Academy, Schalmont, Glens Falls, Saratoga, Troy to just name a few, however CBA and Class A Averill Park need to be in that discussion. Friday Night Christian Brothers Academy came in and beat Averill Park in overtime 65-57 behind Jordan King’s team high 22, while Zach Price paced the warriors with 23.

While it has been an up and down year for the Brothers, you know a Dave Doemel coached team is always going to be scrappy and fight each and every night. With the win on Friday they improve to 7-4 Overall and 6-4 League.

“We are trying to see if we can go forward.” Coach Doemel said. “We want to establish a little bit of a streak here and try to be playing well at the end of the season.”

The game got off to a hot start for the Brothers, as they opened up a quick 7-0 lead behind some good defense and shooting from Senior Jordan King. As the first quarter buzzer sounded CBA was up 17-9, however it felt as if the warriors were not just going to roll over and that's what happened as the second quarter got started.

The warriors started to get hot and were clawing their way back into the ball game as it was 19-15 mid way through the quarter and by the end of it they were up 27-24 and looked to have the momentum on their side for the second half.

As the second half started that looked to be true as the Warriors defense once again heated up and clamped down on the Brothers. They were holding an almost 10 point lead midway through the quarter but CBA went on the offensive and cut the lead down to two as they traded baskets the last two minutes of the quarter, as the Warriors had a slim four point cushion at the end of the quarter.

It was much of the same in the fourth with each team hitting big shots after big shots, however in the last 25 seconds, each team fouled and made free throws to force overtime. CBA then pulled away from there for the win.

“I think our guys played great from the first quarter on.” Said Averill Park Coach Dave Pugliese. “We just got into tremendous foul trouble, they were in the double bonus from midway through the third till the end of the game. It was hard for us to survive that way, but i thought we defended well, and they made big shots. I told the kids we can let this derail us, we are doing really well at 11-4, most of these AA we don't see in sectionals but i believe the A’s are deeper than ever.”

Senior star Jordan King had a quiet 22 points to lead the Brothers, he garners most of the attention when he laces up the shoes each and every game.

“It's a great a feeling when he get a team win like this.”  King Commented “All the guys contributing to the win and it feels great, everyone on the team feels good. This one was big with them being a good team, it boosts our confidence and we go to practice the next day and get better.”

With the win over Averill Park on Friday night, King and his whole team showed they have what it takes to close out a big game and especially on the road in front of a hostile crowd, however sometimes in basketball it takes a little bit of lady luck on your side. They had a little bit of luck and grit Friday Night.
