Duanesburg edged Hoosic Valley 58-49 in a highly anticipated contest in the Class C Championship, featuring two of the top small school teams in the area. Jeffrey Mulhern sparked the offense for the victors with 18 points. The Eagles built upon their steady second half play as they led at the end of the third period and at the closing buzzer. Duanesburg advances to play in the Class CC/C playoff on Sunday vs. Chatham at Cohoes.
The Eagles used a 6-0 spurt late in the third quarter that stretched into the fourth quarter breaking open a close game and giving them some breathing room. Ahead, 33-32, Duanesburg's Jeffrey Mulhern scored the next six points boosting their lead to seven points 39-32. Hoosic Valley would get as close as three points with less than four minutes left in the game but Duanesburg were clutch from the free throw line making their last six attempts to seal the win.
The contest was a toss up as the teams went to the first half breather with Hoosic Valley gaining the upper hand after Duanesburg grabbed a 14-9 first quarter lead.
