Shaker pulled away in the second half to secure a 63-55 road victory over Columbia on Tuesday night in a Suburban Council girls' basketball showdown.
The Blue Bison used a 24-18 third quarter advantage to create separation after leading by just three at halftime. Columbia fought back in the fourth quarter after trailing by double digits, to cut the lead to four points, but wouldn't get any closer.
Sofia Lanni led Shaker with 17 points, Jayla Geter 15 points, with Geter knocking down three three-pointers. Malia Jackson added 14 points.
Columbia kept the game close behind Kendyl Ouimette’s 20 points. Sarah Rainville chipped in 16 points, while Alivia Landy contributed 15.
The game was called extremely tight by the officials as it ended with 59 total free throw attempts. (Shaker 31, Columbia 28)
The quick whistles slowed down the flow of the contest between these two athletic squads.
