A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes. Shaker and Colonie. These two teams met in last year's sectional final with the Wolf Pack taking home the crown. This year the Blue Bison grabbed a close win at Colonie, 49-46, on 1/17/25. Good things happen for Shaker when Division 1 prospect Peyton Hoblock touches the ball in the offense, but she's not the only Shaker weapon. Jayla Geter, Sofia Lanni and Malia Jackson all average double figures in scoring along with Hoblock. Jackson, who played for Hudson last season, is a force on both ends of the court with her defense down low and rebounding. Giada Lanni is averaging close to double digit scoring as well.
Colonie won the title last year and feature key contibutors: Ella Trimarchi, Olivia Hoffman, Aliyah Pearson, and Aliana Payne.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Albany and Shen are in the next tier below the top teams. Albany has won eight of nine games under coach Decky Lawson and are playing their best basketball of the season. Jasanii Francis-Torres leads the team in scoring along with Azera Gates. Other players that are crucial for the Falcons are Gabby Taylor, Nyonah Austin and Mia Corazzini. Shen finished the regular season at 14-6 led by Joe Murphy and look to get back on track after dropping three of their last six games. Kate Milham, Gianna Winter and Kailey Weber lead the team on offense.
Additional thoughts:
Guilderland owns a win over top seeded Shaker earlier in the season, so their best effort can give any of the top seeds problems. Brooke Lilley is averaging over 16 points a game for the Lady Dutch.

(Alivia Landy of Columbia. Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
No. Four teams are separated by 4 points or less in the latest computer ratings. Catholic Central, Columbia, Bethlehem and Averill Park. This is probably my favorite classification this season of all 12 boys/girls brackets. Catholic Central won a state title last year in Class A led by coach Audra Dibacco and they return two stars in El'Dior Dobere and Tanavia Turpin. They also feature two other double figure scorers: Akarri Gaddy and Kristen Foglia.
Columbia is looking for their first sectional title since the early 90's. Alivia Landy is a Division 1 player heading to Wagner. Kendyl Ouimette, a recent 1000 point career scorer, and Sarah Rainville both average over 14 points a game for head coach Shay Harrison. Bethlehem is playing great, winning six of their last seven with the only loss vs Shen in OT. Kaitlyn Robbins and Hanna Lauenstein lead the Eagles. Averill Park is looking for their 11th consecutive sectional title, just incredible. They just had sharp-shooter Kayleigh Ahern return from injury and recent 1000 point career scorer Arianna Verardi runs the show on offense. Lillian Wohleber averages close to double digit scoring and is a tough competitor down low for coach Sean Organ.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Yes, four teams can make some noise. Niskayuna, Ballston Spa, Queensbury and Troy are in a group slightly below the top four teams.

A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Albany Academy and Broadalbin Perth are the top two power rated teams in this bracket. Academy, who lost in the state final championship game last season, is looking for another run through the section and regionals. They are led by a group that includes Eva Gitto, Alex Leaonard, Liana Williams, Morgan Vien, and Emily Thorton. Broadalbin Perth's only loss this year is to Queensbury. Molly Russom, Summer Perry and Macie Perry all average over double digits for the Patriots.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Holy Names, Schalmont, Glens Falls and Scotia are just below the two main contenders and could put a scare into the top seeds.
Additional thoughts:
The way the bracket is setup it's going to be tough for any other finals matchup that isn't Albany Academy vs Broadalbin Perth. I thought Holy Names was clearly the third best team in the classification but they are seeded #4 and Schalmont is # 3 who Holy Names beat head to head. A potential third matchup vs. Academy in the semi-final round, who beat them twice already, is going to be tough for the Panthers. Can Albany Academy or Broadalbin Perth get beat on the way to the final, sure they can? It's just not likely unless there is an outlier of a performance from one of the lower seeds based on previous matchups on both sides of the bracket.

A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
No. Seven teams separated by less than 10 points in the computer rankings. Should be a fun tournament with some possible upsets along the way with not much separation among the top half of the bracket. Voorheesville the #1 seed is led by Mia Carmody and Lana Orietas. #2 Mechanicville is coming off an appearance in the Wasaren League title game and has a solid core of Tanner Eiseman, Elle Richardson, Ava Gaspie and Molly DiSiena. #3 Catskill, the Patroon conference champs guided by coach Chris Quinn, are led by 1000 point career scorer Ava Edmund who is also one of the best rebounders in the section, along with sharp shooter Alessia Salierno. #4 La Salle spit two non-league contests vs. #2 Mechanicville and have a 20+ point a game scorer in Kate Gilooly. #5 Coxsackie Athens is paced by 1500+ career scorer Baileigh Briski.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Cobleskill, Tamarac, Corinth, Watervliet and Greenville are just below the top tier teams. Any of these teams could win a couple games.

(Greenwich's Brooke Kuzmich. Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes, Greenwich at 20-0. They just finished their fourth straight undefeated regular season, amazing. They are led by Brooke Kuzmich, Bailee Wolfe, Jordan Wolfe and Grace Autiello. They own two wins over #2 seed Stillwater, both by the exact scores of 54-34. Knocking off the Witches in this tournament is a tall task for the rest of the bracket.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Stillwater, 18-2, is having a great season and clearly the second best team in the classification. Their only two losses are to #1 Greenwich. Coach Cassidy Chapko has Stillwater playing great basketball led by Miranda Price, Addison Thorton, and Maddie Chatt. Berne Knox Westerlo just won the WAC title game, under coach Tom Galvin, and are 16-4. Maple Hill has a couple impact players that will make some noise in Addison Loszynski, Sydney Rogers and Rosilee Forrest. OESJ, out of the Western Athlethic Confernce, finished the regular season at 14-5.
Additional thoughts:
Enjoy some of the quarter-final round of eight games, they will be good. However, I just don't see another scenario where this doesn't up with round three of Stillwater vs Greenwich in the title game.

(Hailey Monroe driving to the hoop in last year's sectional final. Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
#1 seed Northville is a big favorite to repeat as sectional champ. Hailey Monroe averages over 23 points a game and has help with Lily Klippel, Keira Mackey, Izzy Colon and Ellen Flickinger. Their only losses have come to Class B Cobleskill and Class C Berne Knox at the buzzer. It would be a huge upset if the Falcons don't go back to back in the section.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Hartford and Saratoga Catholic pose the biggest threats to Northville. Hartford owns a win over Saratoga Catholic but fell to Northville 59-35. Saratoga Catholic has Sophia Ryan averaging over 23 points a game and Addison Whitbeck 14 points a game to lead their offense.
Additional thoughts:
In such a small bracket with three teams that seem to be above the rest of the bracket it would be a long shot for one of the lower seeds to make some noise and get to the finals. A semi-final rematch, if the seeds hold, from a game earlier in the season between Hartford and Saratoga Catholic should be a great game.

(Shaker's Mel Brown matched up against Green Tech's Indavier Barnes from last year's tournament. Round 2, next? Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes. Green Tech and Shaker look to have separated themselves some from the rest of the field. Green Tech is looking for their fourth straight large school bracket title. (AA in 22', AA in 23', AAA in 25') The Eagles are paced by Ramere Brown, Indavier Barnes, U'Mier Graham and Olivian Owens. Coach DJ Jones seems to always have his team playing their best ball at this point in the season. Shaker is the Suburban Council champ and led by coach Aric Kucel and loaded with talent including: Bless Demand, Mel Brown, Tye Mariano and Marcelin Mukendi.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Shenendehowa and CBA are the next two best teams below the top 2. Shen is 18-2 with their only losses to Shaker and CBA. CBA has figured some things out, winning their last four games, after an uneven start to the season under first year coach Galal Cancer. Both teams have impact players and should handle business and get to Glens Falls for the semi-finals. The Plainsmen have been knocked out of the tournament the last three years in the quarter-final round at HVCC, something that doesn't happen too often to that program. I fully expect them to make it to the Cool Insuring Arena this year with a solid shot of winning the title.
Additional thoughts:
Colonie, Albany and Saratoga are in the next tier in the Class AAA hierarchy. Could one of them upset a top seed, maybe..... but they'd have to play well above their full season body of work? Colonie graduated impact players from their great season last year. Albany and Saratoga haven't been as consistent as they both would like. Guilderland and Schenectady round out the field.

(Daniel Smalls of Niskayuna looks to lead the Silver Warriors to another crown. Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes, Niskayuna and La Salle. They met in last year's sectional final with the Silver Warriors taking home the crown and are the favorites to meet again this year. The Silver Warriors are led by Coach Mike Grasso and have standout players including Daniel Smalls, Ethan Gilson, Brady Olsen and Garrett Gilloley. La Salle with Coach Orlando Dibacco has a dynamic duo of Sophomore's Tra'Dell "Treddy" Faison and Davon Maloney.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Amsterdam, Bethlehem, Averill Park and Troy. Each of these four teams could get to the sectional final if they play to their potential. Troy's Stetson Merritt is a much watch player. A possible game in the quarterfinals of Troy vs Averill Park would be an interesting test for Merritt and the Flying Horses against the Warriors stout defense. Same goes for Amsterdam/Bethlehem if they meet in the round of eight. Two even strength teams one from the Foothills, Amsterdam, versus Bethlehem from the Suburban Council.
Additional thoughts:
The next group of teams that could cause trouble for higher seeds include Queensbury, Ballston Spa and Columbia. Mohonasen, South Glens Falls and Burnt Hills will need to get hot to win two games in this bracket.

A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes. Glens Falls. They are defending state champions and are headed towards 50 straight wins. Coach Rob Girard has this team humming led by standouts Brady Holcomb, Kellen Driscoll, Oscar Lilac and Aiden Prunty. If any team in this classification can keep the final margin in any game vs. the Black Bears to 20 points or less I'd be impressed.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Hudson and Hudson Falls have the best shot at providing a test for Glens Falls. Hudson is paced by 1800+point career scorer, Keith Robinson. The Bluehawks breezed through the Patroon Conference schedule but stepping up from Class B to Class A should provide a tougher road for them. Hudson Falls finished the regular season at 16-4. Coach Greg Smith has his son Brady Smith, Jayden Hardwick and Jaymison Eisenhardt as double digit scorers. They'll need every bit of their balanced attack to continue on in this bracket.

A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
No. Eight teams are within 10 points of each other in the latest updated computer ratings. A ton of parity in this classification which makes it the most interesting of the six Section 2 tournaments. Hoosick Falls, Voorheesville and Mechanicville are the top three rated teams in this classification but it's a razor thin margin between them. A Hoosick Falls vs Mechanicville final, if the seeds hold true, would be a father/son battle of coaches which would be interesting to say the least. (Mike Lilac Jr. vs Alex Lilac)
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
A bunch of teams including Stillwater, Tamarac, Greenville, Fonda, and Corinth.
Additional thoughts:
Early round games to watch: Johnstown vs. Stillwater. The 6th seeded Sir Bills out of the WAC have had a nice season at 14-6 match up against #11 Stillwater, 11-9, from the Wasaren League. After a rough early season start Stillwater has won 8 of 10 games. Should be a great first round game.

(Duanesburg's Jeffrey Mulhern. Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes. Berne Knox is undefeated 20-0 and has beat #2 seed Duanesburg twice by double digits and #3 seed Saratoga Catholic on the Saints home floor. Coach Andy Wright has had this program progressing towards this point the last few years and is primed to win the program's first sectional title since the late 70's. Shane Kirker, Dayne Coates and George Wright lead the Bulldogs offensive attack. Duanesburg's Jeff Mulhern has been a monster this season, coming back from last season's injury, recently scoring 48 and 50 points in back to back games. Coach Brett Simpson, who has done a really nice job with this program, will need to find more from his Eagles to knock off BKW.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Saratoga Catholic looms behind the top two teams led by Coach Shea Bromirski. They are 18-2 on the season with losses only to Class B top seed Hoosick Falls and Class C top seed Berne Knox Westerlo. They can shoot it from deep as well as any team in the bracket. It won't be a surprise if they are playing in the title game.
North Warren won the Class D state title last year and has moved up to Class C this year and could cause trouble for the higher seeds. Cougar Freshman Semaj Cuyler just topped 1000 career points and is a tough matchup for teams. Hoosic Valley has struggled towards the end of the regular season but play in the tough Wasaren League and won't be afraid of the higher seeds. Maple Hill, in Coach Scott Hanrahan's final season, always play tough defense. Can they get enough from the offense to win a couple games, we'll see?
Additional thoughts:
The bottom half of this bracket has struggled this year. It would take a huge effort for some of the lower seeds to knock off the top 4 seeds.

(Loudonville Christian, from last year's Class D Championship game, look to make it back and win the title this season. Photo by Ed Bemiss.)
A few questions based on the numbers:
Are there any clear cut teams that are the favorite to win the title?
Yes. Loudonville Christian and Hawthorne Valley. They met twice during the regular season and Loudonville Christian won both games by single digits. Loudonville Christian played in the sectional final last year, (lost to North Warren) and are in a good position to get another crack at the title. Hawthorne Valley is led by Senior Oliver Towe who recently became the school's first 1000 point career scorer.
Is there a team seeded #4 or below the top contenders that could that could win a couple games, reach the final or win the classification?
Hartford and Fort Ann out of the Adirondack League are the next two highest rated teams in this bracket.
Additional thoughts:
It's going to be difficult for the teams in the lower part of the bracket to string together a couple of wins. It would be an upset if Loudonville Christian and Hawthorne Valley aren't playing for the title.
